Cardiovascular Drugs Flashcards
It is defined as a persistent systolic pressure of greater than 140 mmHg and/or a diastolic pressure of greater than 90 mmHg
Hypertension
What is Cardiac Output?
amount of blood ejected from the left ventricle and measured in Lpm
Blood Pressure is?
Determined by the product of cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance
What is SVR/Systemic Vascular Resistance?
resistance to blood flow that is determined by the diameter of the blood vessels and vascular musculature
What are Diuretics?
Drugs that accelerate the rate of urine formation that results to the
removal of sodium and water from the body
Minoxidil
effectiveness in restoring hair growth
POSITIVE INOTROPIC drugs
increase the force of myocardial contraction
POSITIVE CHRONOTROPIC drugs
increase the rate in which the heart beats
POSITIVE DROMOTROPIC drugs
accelerate conduction
What is ACEI?
potent vasoconstrictor and can prevent Na and water resorption
causing diuresis
What is ARB?
potent vasodilator and decreases systemic vascular resistance
What is BB?
reduce/block SNS stimulation with cardioprotective quality
What is Lidocaine?
used as a topic anesthetic is with added epinephrine to control
bleeding in the area. Never used intravenously
