Cardiovascular Disorder - Transposition Of The Great Arteries (TOGA) Flashcards
Transposition means
Switch
ToGA stands for
Transposition of the Great Arteries
What arteries are switched in ToGA?
Pulmonary Artery and Aorta
Is there mixing of deoxygenated blood and oxygenated blood?
None
What’s the problem in Transposition of the Great Arteries?
From the word Trans which means switch among the great arteries namely pulmonary artery and aorta.
Deoxygenated which supposed to be in the right ventricle connected to pulmonary artery is connected to aorta instead. And oxygenated left ventricle which supposed to be connected to Aorta is connected to Pulmonary artery
Cyanotic or Acyanotic?
Transposition of the Great Arteries (ToGA)
Cyanotic
2nd most common CHD
Transposition of the Great arteries
If ToGA is evident immediately at birth, is this dangerous or not?
It is dangerous
Managements of ToGA
Prostaglandin infusion
Balloon Atrial Septostomy
Atrial switch: Jaylene procedure
If prostaglandin is infused, what should be kept prepared in the bedside?
Ventilator
What kind of room shall the patient stay in?
Room air only
If prostaglandin is infused, what should we watch out for? And for how many hours?
Apnea and hypotension in 2 hours
Temporary management for ToGA
Balloon Atrial Septostomy
Where shall the patient with Balloon Atrial Septostomy be admitted?
ICU
How many days should an Arterial switch with Jatene procedure be done in a baby?
Within 14 days of life
