The 2 questions to screen for depression?
- In the past month, have you often been bothered by feeling down, depressed, or hopeless?
- In the past month, have you often been bothered by having little interest or pleasure in doing things?
“YES” to one = 90% sensitive, 70% specific
“NO” to both effectively rules out depression
Depression Tx
-SSRI’s effective, safe, cost-effective
-Bupropion (Wellbutrin)
-Alternative / complimentary strategies:
Cognitive behavior therapy / Problem solving therapy
Exercise training / Cardiac rehabilitation
