cardiovascular Flashcards
patient with sulfa allergy can not take
chlortalidone (thiazide diuretic) because
thiazide is a sulfonamide-containing drug with commonly reported adverse effects, including electrolyte abnormalities, orthostatic hypotension, hyperglycemia, and photosensitivity.
when amlodipine (CCB) is prescribed
lab would not be needed
when lisinopril (ACE inhibitor) is prescribed what lab should be checked
potassium (would be increased)
Bun, cr (checked renal function)
when losartan (ARB) is prescribe what lab should be checked
Potassium
Bun, crea
when on chlortalidone (thiazide diuretic)
potassium should be checked due to hypokalemia
NB never prescribe an ACE and ARB to a pt
Diabetic pt high risk for stroke
both meds work on the angiotensin
hypertensive meds always start at lowest dose
statin meds can be start at any dose and the pt will be fine with
when to initiate fibrate
when triglyceride is > than 500
what happen when older adult takes Naproxen?
increase sodium so increase BP
naproxen products contain salt (sodium).
a pt with heart failure on CCB, naproxen
discontinue the CCB
calcium contract the muscle and the heart is a muscle so a CCB will block the heart contraction
it will decrease the rate of contraction
discontinue the naproxen - it will increase fluid overload
if you hear a murmur place your hand to the carotid pulse if the murmur synchronist with the carotid pulse
it’s a systolic murmur
murmur are loudest where they originate
