Cardiorespiratory System Flashcards
Cardiovascular System
Heart, blood, and blood vessels
Cardiac muscle
Short, tight connected skeletal muscle. Involuntary and fires synchronously
Atria
Smaller superior chambers of the heart. Receive blood from veins.
Right-deoxygenated blood returning to heart
Left-oxygenated blood from the lungs
Sinoatrial Node SA
In right atrium. Initiates impulse for heart rate
Ventricles
Inferior chambers. Pump blood out
Right-deoxygenated to lungs
Left- oxygenated to body
Arteries
Carry blood from heart
Veins
Transport blood to heart
Arteriols
Small branches of arteries, end in capillaries
Capillaries
Site of gas, chemical, and water exchange
Venules
Small veins. Connect capillaries to large veins
Stroke volume
Blood per contraction
Average heart beat
70-80
Cardiac output
Blood per minute. HR x Stroke volume
Inspiration
Contract inspiration muscles to move air into lungs
Primary Inspiratory Muscles 2
Diaphram, external intercostals
