What is dilated (congestive) cardiomyopathy?

A
  • Most common
  • The ventricular wall thickness is normal
  • Both ventricles are DILATED (L>R)

A
  • Same with reduced EF CHF (40%)
  • Fatigue/ weakness
  • Arrythmias

  • Congestive
  • Obstructive
  • Thickening of the left ventricle
  • Sudden death, especially in young athletes

  • Rare
  • Walls of heart become stiff
  • Impaired filling
  • Preserved systolic function
  • Emboli common (chambers narrowed)
