Cardiology Flashcards
What is the tunica media made up of?
Muscle
What is the outlayer made up of?
Tunica adventitia= connective tissue
What is the name of the blood supply to the large elastic arteries?
Vaso vasorum
What is the make up of arterioles?
Only have one or two layers of muscle
No adventitia
What are pericytes and where are they situated?
Just outside the basal lamina in capillaries.
They are connective tissue with CONTRACTILE properties
What are the three types of capillary?
Continuous
Fenestrated
Sinusoidal or discontinuoous
What are valves?
Inward extensions of the tunica media
What are the three layers in the heart?
Endocardium
Mycocardium
Epicardium
What is a subendocardium?
Loose connective tissue containing small blood vessels and nerves and the branches of the impulse conductin system
What is the histology of cardiac cells?
Small single central nucleus
Connected by intercalated discs
What type of epithelium if present on the epicardium?
Mesothelium
What is the fibrous pericardium made of>
Sac of tough fibrocollagenous connective tissue
What is the serous pericardium made up of?
Simple Squamous epithelial cells (mesothelium)
What is the lamina fibrosa?
A core of dense connective tissue in heart valves the forms part of the fibrous skeleton
What are the leaflets of the valves anchored to in the wall of the ventricle?
Papillary muscles
