Cardio structural Flashcards
What are the sections in the cardiac structural exam?
Scanning
regional
segmental
What are the parts of the scanning section?
Anterior lateral posterior Heart Lungs Vascular exam Thoracic inlet region
What is done under anterior View?
Rib cage contour
(inflare/outflare abnormalities, pectus excavatum/carinatum)
Derm exam (pigment, pallor, erythema, etc.)
What is done in lateral view?
Thoracic Kyphotic Curve
What is done in posterior view?
Derm exam (pigment, pallor, erythema, etc.)
What is done in heart?
Measure Jugular Venous Pressure (highest point of oscillation) Comment on estimated Jugular Venous Pressure (JVP)
Auscultate the heart valves
Comments: rate, rhythm, murmurs, AND extra heart sounds.
PMI: (4th or 5th Intercostal space at mid-clavicular line) Comments: location AND amplitude
What is done in lung?
(Grader will designate a single posterior lung field for auscultation, bilaterally)
Auscultate designated posterior lung field (upper, middle, or lower)
Comment: wheezes, crackles, OR other abnormal breath sounds.
What is done in the vascular exam?
Carotid artery auscultation for bruits
Dorsalis pedis OR posterior tibial artery pulse
Pedal skin temperature (use palms/digits to assess) Capillary refill (fingers or toes)
Ankle/pretibial edema
What is done in thoracic inlet?
Supraclavicular fossa depth
Clavicle level (clavicular head) Clavicular mobility exam
Rib 1 diagnosis
T1 diagnosis
What are the parts to the regional exam?
Palpatory Exam and AROM/PROM
Viscerosomatic Reflexes (name associated organs and ANS innervation)
Costochondral Tenderness\
Chapman cardiac points(2nd ICS on sternal border, bilaterally) Absent/Present
Rib regional exam (ISD/ESD)
Thoracic diaphragm
What is done in the segmental exam?
Perform a segmental diagnosis based on findings of the regional exam.
Cervical OR Upper Thoracic (T2-4) OR Ribs (2-4)
