cardio myopathies Flashcards
what are cardiomyopathies
any disease of cardiac muscle
describe a dilated cardiomyopathy
big heart, flappy and weak with big chambers.
what causes dilated CM
genetics, toxins (alcohol), infection
how do you diagnose CM
heart failure, SOB, low CO
what is hypertrophic CM
big heart, strong contraction, diastole heart as cant relax and eventual outflow obstruction
what can cause hypertrophic CM
genetics
how can you identify hypertrophic CM
myofibril swirls
what is restrictive CM
lack of compliance, not necessarily enlarged, may look ok. Diastole dysfunction
what can cause restrictive CM
deposition, sarcoid, tumours, fibrosis, amyloid
what is amyloid
abnormal deposition of proteins that body can’t get rid of. Are panysystemic and pink waxy material
what is arrhythmogenic right ventricle dysplasia
genetic autosomal dominant disease with low penetrance, causes an arrhythmia
in rarhythmogenic right ventricle dysplasia what is the right ventricle largely replaced by
fat
what disease affects the heart lining but generally valves
endocarditis
what is lupus
small sterile embolus on valves
what is the most common heart tumour
atrial myxoma
