Cardio Anatomy Flashcards
What are the borders of the Mediastinum?
Laterally by the pleural cavity of the lungs
Supperiorly by thoracic index and inferiorly by the diaphragm
What is the level of the plane of Louis
From sternal angle to T4
Why is the plane of sternal angle a thoracic landmark?
-Separates superior from inferior mediastinum.
-Marks the beginning and end of the aortic arch.
-Marks the birfurcation of the trachea.
-identifies superior border of the pericardium.
makrs ending of aorta.
-Arch of Azygous vein.
What are the borders of the superior mediastinum?
Superiorly by thoracic inlet
Inferiorly by plane of loius
Anteriorly by the manubrium
Posteriorly by T4/T5
Laterally by pleura of lungs
What are The great vessels? Aorta, veins and nerves?
Aortic Arch divides into-
1).brachiocephallic artery - into right common and carotid
2).Left Common Carotid
3). Left Subclavian Artery.
Veins:
1).Brachiocephalic vein
2).Left Superior Intercostal
3).Supreme Intercostal vein
4). Azygous vein
Nerves
1).Right and Left Vegus nerve
2). Left Recurrent Laryngeal
3). Phrenic
What are some other structures?
1). Thymus
2).Thoracic Inlet-Oesophagus, trachea, vagus nerve, thoracic duct, major blood vessels
What are the contents of the Middle Mediastinum?
1). Pericardium
2). Heart and Bifurcation if heart
3). Roots of Great vessels
4).. Roots of lungs
5). Phrenic nerves.
6).Deep part of cardiac plexus
