Surface marking of heart
Right 3rd CC 1cm away from sternum
Right 6th CC “
Left 5th ICS MCL, apex
Left 2nd ICS 2.5 cm away
Auscultate for aortic and pulmonary valve
Pulmonary- Right 2nd ICS- next to sternum
Aortic- Left 2nd ICS
Auscultate for mitral and tricuspid valve
Tricuspid- 4th ICS left
Mitral- 5h ICS MCL
Carotid, brachial ulnar and radial pulse
Carotid- between sternocleidomastoid process and thyroid cartilage
Brachial- either under bicep(push hard), or medial side of cubital fossa
Ulnar- Medial part of wrist
Radial- lateral part of wrist
Palpate Apex beat
Usually palpable just medial to left 5th ICS at MCL
Use 3 fingers
Middle finger in 5th ICS
Start laterally
Site of routine venipuncture on arm
Antebrachial vein in cubital fossa
Surface marking of internal jugular vein
Just lateral to common carotid, from ear lobe to sternocalvicular joint
Surface marking of common carotid
Runs under sternocleidomastoid muscle from sternoclavicular joint to ear lobe
ECG leads on chest
V1- right 4th ICS V2- Left 4th ICS V3- 5th ICS between 2 and 4 V4- 5th ICS MCL V5- 5th ICS AAL V6- 5th ICS MAL
