CARDIAC Section 9: Tumors Flashcards
What is the mosto common tumor in the heart?
Mets (30x than primary)
What is the most common site of metastasis and manifestation?
Pericardium - Pericardial lymph node
Second most common cardiac manifestation of metastasis
Pericardial lymph node
What is the most common metastasis to the heart?
Lung CA
What disease has the higest percentage of cases that mets to the heart?
Melanoma
Most common primary MALIGNANT tumor of the heart in ADULTS
Angiosarcoma:
Common Site of Angiosarcoma
Right Atrium and tend to involve the pericadiuma
Common manifestation of Angiosarcoma
Right sided failure and/or tamponade
Buzzword: “Sun-ray” appearance
Describe:
Angiosarcoma
enhancement appearance of the diffuse subtype as it grows along the perivascular spaces associated with the epicardial vessels.
Most common primary cardiac tumor in adults (rare in children).
Left Atrial Myxoma
DIagnosis
Left Atrial Myxoma
What diseases are associated with Left Atrial Myxoma
Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) Syndromes
Blue Nevi (Carney Complex)
Where do Left atrial myxoma commonly attach?
Interatrial septum
Imaging features of Left atrial Myxoma
MAy calcify
May prolapse throught the mitral valve
Enhance with Gd (Important discriminator from a thrombus)
Most common fetal cardiac tumor.
Rhabdomyoma
Site of Rhabdomyoma
Left ventricle
Disease associated with Rhabdomyoma
Tuberus Sclerosis
2nd most common cardiac tumore in childhood
Fibroma
Site of Cardiac Fibroma
IV septum
MRI features of Cardiac Fibroma
T1/T2 - Dark
With enhancement on late Gd
Most common neoplasm to involve the cardiac valves
Fibroelastoma
Common site of Fibroelasotma
80% aortic or mitral
Other features of Fibroelastoma
highly mobile on SSFP Cine
Systemic emboli are common (if they are on the left side)
Most common intra-cardiac mass
Thrombus
Descrone the atial myxoma
“Ball with stalk attached to the inter- atrial septum ”
What features does Fibroelastoma have vs vegetations?
Vegetations tend to involve the valve free edges. Fibroelastoma does NOT do that.
MRI features: Fibroma vs Rhabdomyoma
Fibroma is T2 dark Rhabdomyoma is T2 Bright
