death of heart muscle due to lack of blood flow
myocardial infarction
inability for heart to function as an effective pump
congestive heart failure
usually due to a blockage of the coronary arteries, disease of the heart muscle or structural anomalies of the heart
heart disease
Patients with CHF usually experience……

What are some goals of INPATIENT cardiac rehab?
- prevent muscle loss
- small amt of cardio
- HEP’s
What are some STERNAL PRECAUTIONS?

4) any sternal clicking = STOP
5) 6-8 weeks before sexual activity
What are some goal of OUTPATIENT cardiac rehab?
- monitor pt’s response to cardio
- limit psychological/physiological effects of heart disease
- risk factor education
combination of emphysema & bronchitis
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
What are some impacts of COPD?
- trouble breathing
- eating difficult
- high depression rate
What are goals for PULMONARY rehab?
- increase endurance for ADLs
- appropriate breathing
- strengthening UE
- energy conservation
Pursed Lip Breathing technique……

double length of exhale vs. inhale
What are some energy conservation techniques?
