Q

atrial systole

A

atria contract and ventricular relax
volume of the chamber increases, increasing the pressure
pushing the blood into the ventricles
ventricles receive the ejected blood

Q

ventricular systole

A

ventricles contract and the Atria relax
decreasing the volume and increasing the pressure.
the pressure would be higher in the ventricles than in atria which forces AV valves shut to prevent back flow
The pressure is higher in ventricles than in aorta and PA which forces SL valves to open
Blood is forced out into the arteries

calculation of heart beat

A

see how long a it takes for on cardiac cycle
60/cardiac cycle = heart beat

Q

cardiac diastole

A

ventricles and arteries both relaxes
high pressure in the PA and aorta helps close the SL valve and prevent backflow into the ventricles
blood returns to the heart and atria fills out again due to high pressure in PV and vena cava.
as atria’s pressure increase, it allows ventricles to relax and the pressure falls below the pressure of atria, making the av valves open.
blood to flow passively into the ventricles from the atria
the atria contract and whole process again
