Q

Discuss the Frank - Starling Law with respect to sliding filament theory

A
As the ventricles fill, the myocardium stretches to accommodate
This stretch increases the potential interactions between actin and myosin filaments
More interactions (cross-bridges) = more force can be generated

Q

Discuss the baroreceptor reflex

A

Baroreceptors sense a change in blood pressure by monitoring arterial wall tension
Deliver this change by stimulating the Cardiovascular centre in the medulla oblongata
If increased blood pressure is detected, the CV centre triggers a parasympathetic response in order to decrease cardiac output, resulting in a reduced blood pressure, homeostasis is restored

Vice versa
