Q

If Arterial P CO2 increases, what happens?

A

The increase in CO2 decreases the pH of the brains extracellular fluid

Central Chemoreceptors in the brain detect increase in H+
Peripheral chemoreceptors in the carotid and aortic bodies detect increase in P CO2

Afferent impulses sent to Medullary respiratory centers

Efferent impulses sent to respiratory muscle

Ventilation is increased (More CO2 exhaled)

Arterial P CO2 decreases
