Discharge instructions for CABG:
A
- Encourage a daily shower. Surgical incisions should not be soaked to have lotion or creams applied to them.
- No lifting objects >5lbs, until approved by HCP.
- No driving for 4-6 weeks, or until approved by HCP.
- If client can walk one block or climb stairs w/o symptoms, usually safe to resume sex.

Signs and symptoms of cardiac tamponade:
*pericardial effusion = risk for development of cardiac tamponade

- Hypotension with narrowed pulse pressure
- Muffled or distant heart tones
- Jugular vein distension
- Pulsus paradoxus
- Dyspnea/tachypnea
- Tachycardia
- Weak, thready pulse

Best place to hear a murmur for a client with mitral valve stenosis?
A
Best heard at the apex of the heart; produces a diastolic murmur.

Clinical manifestations of right-sided heart failure:
A
- Peripheral and dependent edema; especially in the lower extremities
- JVD
- Increased abdominal girth
- Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly

Left sided heart failure manifestations:
A
Orthopnea, paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea, and crackles in the lung bases, pulmonary edema
