what are carcinoid tumours?
A
- rare cancer of the neuroendocrine system
- usually grows in the bowels or appendix

how do carcinoid tumours occur?
A
- occurs when metastases are present in the liver and release serotonin into the systemic circulation
- may also occur with lung carinoid as mediatrs are not ‘cleared’ by the liver
