carburetor icing Flashcards
what conditions can carburetor icing occur
under certain atmospheric conditions of 20° to 70°
(-5° to 20°)
why can icing occur even in summer conditions
due to the high air velocity through the carburetor venturi & the absorption of heat from this air by vaporization of the fuel
how does carb is in form in other words
the pressure drops when the air goes through the venturi. the drop in pressure also comes with a temperature drop as much as 50° F. therefore it vaporizes the heat and freezes the fuel and causes carb ice
what does carb heat do
it replaces the heat lost lost by vaporization
what are signs of carburetor ice
engine roughness and a drop in rpm
what does the archer poh state about carb heat
carb heat should not be used applied there is an indication of carb ice since the use of carb heat causes a reduction in power which may be crucial in case of a go-around. full throttle operation with carb heat on can cause detonation
what is wrong with partial carb heat
partial heat may be worse than no heat at all, sine it may melt part of the ice, which will refreeze in the intake system
