Q

What element forms the bridge between the the monomers that make up maltose and sucrose? What is the bond called? What molecule was made during the condensation reaction that formed these disaccharides

A

Oxygen is formed between the two , the bond is called glycosidic linkage and also h2o was made in the condensation reaction

Q

How does cellulose account for its function as a rigid cell wall and as dietary fibre and “roughage”

A

The molecule in cellulose are formed in a cross cross pattern that gives strength and shape to the wall. Humans can’t digest cellulose it passes through our systems unchanged and acts like a roughage that helps movement of our intestines

Q

what are the 3 main types of carbohydrates

A

monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides
or
Sugars. They are also called simple carbohydrates because they are in the most basic form. …
Starches. They are complex carbohydrates, which are made of lots of simple sugars strung together. …
Fiber. It is also a complex carbohydrate.

Q

Disaccharides

A

“double sugar” complex sugar and are made of two simple sugars(monosaccharides) made up together

ex maltose, and sucrose

commonly having 12 atoms

Q

describe the process of disaccharide’s

A

2 simple sugars come together through the process of condensation and have a glyosidic linkage resulting into a oxygen between them with the removal of one molecule of H20
