A

Acting in connection with;
- War/emergency
- Defence of NZ interests
- Aid to Civil power in time of emergency
- The provision of public service
- any operation performed within a restricted, danger or MOA for military purposes

Restricted & danger areas - when can you operate within?

A
  1. With prior approval of administering authority
  2. With compliance of conditions promulgated for operations within the area.
  3. With compliance of any conditions imposed by the administering authority.
  4. With due consideration of dangers posed & confirmation that they will not affect the safety of the aircraft.

When must you NOT enter a low flying zone

A

At night
During the day, UNLESS;
- pilot is recieving dual instrcution, or holds an instructor rating, or is briefed on the boundaries of the LFZ & method of entry/exit & is authorised.

Conditions for entering an LFZ (6)

A
  1. pilot has been briefed by using agency on conditions for operating within the zone
  2. Pilot complies with the above
  3. Before entering, pilot broadcasts details of flight intentions & duration.
  4. Pilot maintains listening watch & broadcasts on vacating the LFZ
  5. Aircraft is operated without hazard to persons/property on the surface
  6. Nil Pax carried

Conditions for operating within a MOA?

A
  1. Has approval from administering authority (for either NZ registered or foreign a/c)
  2. Complies with any conditions promulgated for operation within the MOA (generally & from the operating agency).

Comms required for operating within a MBZ?

A

Must make the following broadcasts (Callsign, position, alt, intentions) on;
- Entry
- When joining A/D traffic circuit
- Before entering RWY for takeoff
- At any other time at least at the intervals designated on the chart.

A
  1. comms as covered in pre flashcard
  2. maintain listening watch on freq assigned to MBZ
  3. A/C landing lights and/or anti-col ON

Exceptions to MBZ requirements?

A
  1. In formation: lead aircraft to do all comms, remaining to have anti-cols turned on
  2. Without operable radio for the purpose of getting radio fixed (as long as anti-cols are on, and where able, someone else to do comms)

Conditions for operating within a VHZ?

A

Must not enter a VHZ by night or in IMC
May enter by DAY in VMC only once the following have been considered;
1. Relevant met info recieved in SIGMET
2. NOTAMs checked
3. Any other applicable info provided by an organisiation that holds a met service certificate.

Conditions for operating within a GAA?

A

Must not enter during the night,
May enter during the day provided;
1. the GAA is active permanently through the day, or;
2. The GAA is made active by approval of ATC unit responsible for the airspace, an approval to enter & operate has been recieved. Pilot complies with any requirement given by ATC to vacate.
3. If the GAA is made active by notification from user to ATC unit, prior heads up has been given, and ATC have confirmed the GAA is active.
