Q

UNDER SECULAR LAW, WHAT ARE YOUR OBLIGATIONS AS AN OFFICIAL
PERFORMING A MARRIAGE CEREMONY? WHAT ABOUT UNDER CANON
LAW? CAN A DEACON GIVE THE NUPTIAL BLESSING?-

A

We are no longer representatives/officials of the state. We are not bound in anyway by the laws
of the State in regards to marriage because it is not the state that defines marriage, but
God’s holy Church. We only perform sacramental marriages, and they will need to have
an official of the state sign the marriage license
