Canines Flashcards
What does the upper canine have instead of an incisal edge
A pointed cusp
What is the crown of the upper canine like
Convex with the middle region often heightened to a prominent ridge (runs longitudinally to end at the tip of the cusp)
Describe the mesial and distal borders of the upper canine
The mesial border is shorted and less steeply inclined than the distal border
What is the palatal side of the upper canine like
Generally concave and often divided into 2 shallow fossa by a ridge connecting the cusp with the cingulum
Describe the cervical undulation on the upper canine
It is greater on the mesial surface than the distal
Where is the mesial contact of the upper canine located
More incisally
Where is the distal contact of the upper canine located
The central of the middle third of the crown
What is the root of the upper canine like
Longest and strongest of human dentition, irregularly oval, usually slightly grooved both mesially and distally
In comparison to the upper canine, what is the lower canine like
Smaller and more slender, more symmetrical, shorter and weaker and flatter mesio-distally so it appears narrower and more slender
What is the lingual aspect of the lower canine crown like
Cingulum, marginal ridges and fossa are led pronounced than in the upper canines, lingual surface is flatter
What is the labial surface of the lower canine like
Ridges are less prominent, mesial border is shorter and less steeply inclined
Labial surface is lingually inclined bringing the cusp into lingual position
