Canine MCT Flashcards
Cytologic Criteria for Mast Cell Tumor Grading in Dogs With Evaluation of Clinical Outcome
Camus et al 2016. Vet Path. U of Georgia
- high grade if poorly granulated
- or at least 2 of the 4: mitotic figures, binucleated or multinucleated cells, nuclear pleomorphism, or >50% anisokaryosis
- 88% sensitivity and 94% specificity
Correlation of Nodal Mast Cells with Clinical Outcome in Dogs with Mast Cell Tumour and a Proposed Classification System for the Evaluation of Node Metastasis
Weishaar et al 2014. J Comp Path. CSU
Retrospective outcome evaluation for dogs with surgically excised, solitary Kiupel high-grade, cutaneous mast cell tumours
Moore et al. 2019. Vet Comp Oncol, Australia
- those with stage I Kiupel high grade can have prolonged survival with surgery
- mitotic index and tumour size = prognostic
- overall MST = 1046 days, those that develop metastasis post-op = 451 days
Adjuvant medical therapy provides no therapeutic benefit in the treatment of dogs with low-grade mast cell tumours and early nodal metastasis undergoing surgery
Marconato et al 2019. Vet Comp Oncol, Italy
- ## 42 had adjuvant tx, 31 did not
