Infectious Canine Hepatitis (ICH)

A

Canine adenovirus type 1
rare, contagious disease that affects the liver, kidneys, spleen and lungs.
CS: fever vomiting, diarrhea, nasal/ocular discharge and corneal edema”blue eye”
Transmission: oronasal route. She’d in urine
TRT. Supportive
Vaccine available

Canine Parvovirus (Parvo)

A

Parvovirus :acute onset enteritis
CS: anorexia bloody diarrhea, dehydration (this is how they die most of the time so you must support them this way) , myocarditis (inflammation of heart muscle), and death
Incubation: 5-10 days
Transmission: ingestion of fecal material. Very resistant virus
TRT. supportive , IV fluids , serinia (anti-nausea) Stop the nausea and allow the diarrhea so they can push it all out.
GSD: Dobies and Rottweilers are particularly susceptible - Purebred dogs
Vaccine available but preferred in a hospital and NOT over the counter. We vac at 6 9 12 and 18 weeks
Antibiotics help treat the other things coming down the pipeline but do not treat Parvo & Pain Medications
Puppy disease 6 weeks - 6 months and rarely adults
Snap test, farengial swap and rectal swab

Rabies

A

Rhabdovirus aka hydrophobia ( fear of water )
They cants swallow, and they salivate , and then they bite and the rabies is inside of the saliva or foam and transfers into bite wound. Causes neurological reactions “crazy” warm blooded animals . Behavioral Change , Hypersalivation difficulty swallowing, weakness, paralysis and death
Acute, viral ,, encephalomyelitis that affects all warm blooded animals
Bats, skunks ,foxes, and raccoons
Transmission : Transfer of saliva through the skin muscle to mucous membrane
Incubation is 15 days to 6 months
They DIe & their is no antemortem
TX : None

Coronavirus. Crown Virus . DHPPC
CS: in apparent to severe vomiting and diarrhea
TX Supportive but usually self limiting
TRT supportive but usually self limiting , goes away on its own
Vaccine Available , but questoionable efficacy
