What is it?
A
A yeast infection caused by Candida Fungus

Why does it occur?
A
It usually occurs when the host defences/usual flora are reduced e.g when people are taking antibiotics

Where does it affect?
A
Mucosa, skin and rarely is a deep seated infection

Which is the most common infection?
A
Candida Albicans (thrush) (albica=white, it forms white plaques)

What are the predisposing factors? (7)
A
Infancy, old age, warmth, broad spectrum antibiotics, pregnancy, diabetes, immunodeficiency

What are the signs and symptoms? (2)
A
Itching, white plaque formation

What is the treatment? (2)
A
Topical antifungals e.g Clotrimazole, Oral antifungals e.g Fluconazole
