What is it?
A
A bacterial infection that forms in the flexures/body folds

Who does it affect?
A
Mainly people who are overweight with excess folds, and people with excess sweating

Why does it happen?
A
The skin folds provide the perfect environment for bacteria so species like Corynebacteria, Staph Aureus and Strep Pyogenes (normal skin flora) are able to proliferate

Signs and Symptoms? (8)
A
Inflammation, erythematous, itching, soreness, moist, macerated skin, fissures, peeling, acute/relapsing/chronic

What is the treatment? (4)
A
Gentle antiperspirant, topical antibiotics e.g fusidic acid, oral antibiotics e.g Flucloxacillin and Erythromycin, low potency steroids e.g 1% hydrocortisone
