cancer development Flashcards
1
Q
What are the stages of cancer?
A
- hyperplasia
- dysplasia
- in situ cancer
- malignant tumour
- metastasis
2
Q
What types of carcinogens are there?
A
- chemical (e.g. genotoxic)
- radiation (e.g. UV)
- Microbial (oncogenic viruses)
3
Q
What types of DNA repair systems do we hae>
A
- nucleotide excision repair
- base excision repair
- homologous end joining
- error-prone DNA repair
4
Q
What is the difference between homologous and non-homologous end joining
A
with HEJ, the original sequence gets repaired after a ds break. the NHEJ the ds gets directly bound together without any extra nucleotides in between.
