What is the difference between “direct democracy” and “representative democracy”?

A

Direct democracy was used in ancient Greece. People in ancient Greece voted directly on all decisions that affected society.

In representative democracy, citizens elect a person to make decisions on their behalf.

Most modern democracies use representative democracy. However, sometimes they will use direct democracy by holding a referendum on important questions that everyone votes on.
