describe what happened in the invasion of canada

A
  • september 1775- 2 expeditions set out to canada and quebec
  • montgomery with 1200 men advanced through the waterway
  • benedict arnold marched through Maine to meet montgomery to capture Quebec
  • they wasted time capturing other firts
  • montgomery captured montreal with 150 men in november
  • dec 1775- joined arnold- who had around 700 hungry and sick men
  • imperative that they attack quickly- as most american enlistments expired at the end of the year
  • american assualt on quebec was in a snowstorm on 31st dec 1775
  • ended badly, faced 1800 french canadian men under british commander General Carleton

americans suffered from a lack of supplies- very hungry
assault made in a snowstorm- poor visibility
many deserted
men sick- smallpox and dysentry common
