- gage had a force of 6500 men after the arrival of British Generals Howe, Burgoyne, and Clinton.
- gage looked set to occupy bunker hill but a rebel force of 1500 men occupied the neighbouring hill by mistake
- howe launched a frontal attack on the rebel defences
- dislodged the americans, but they lost 1000 of the 2500 men, american casualities less than half that.

- 1/8th of the british officers killed in the entrie conflict died in bunker hill
- the courage displayed by the colonial forces inspired more americans to support the war effort, leading to greater enlistment in the continental army
