Q

The Gorai Garbage Site Closure Project

A

For 1972 - 2007 , 1200 tonnes of Mumbai’s solid waste was deposited in the Gorai Landfill every day.

It was close to residential areas and let out a bad smell (methane) so it was one of the most unhealthiest places to live in Mumbai.

The government then decided that it needs to be improved so in two years the waste was reshaped to make a gentle hill, covered in layers to prevent leaching.

Also methane capture tech was installed to generate into power.

Q

The Mumbai Monorail

A

In 2007 Mumbai’s government decided the monorail would be a good solution to the transports problems where busses are the only form of transport.

It is also advantageous as it takes ppl of the road

Over 130 million

Tickets on the train are cheap (11 rupees pp)

But it goes through the industrial sectors no the old city so not many people use it (only 15,000 per day) and mainly tourists use it so not very useful.
