Habitat is human and animal feces.
Transmission of Campylobacter jejuni
fecal–oral route
Pathogenesis of Campylobacter jejuni
1—Invades mucosa of the colon but does not penetrate;

2_No enterotoxin known.
Laboratory Diagnosis of Campylobacter jejuni
1—Gram-stained smear plus culture on special agar (e.g., Skirrow’s agar)
at 42°C in high-CO2,
low-O2 atmosphere. Serologic tests not useful.
Treatment of Campylobacter jejuni
1—Usually symptomatic treatment only; 2_erythromycin for severe disease.
Prevention of Campylobacter jejuni
1—Public health measures (e.g., sewage disposal, chlorination of the water supply, stool cultures for food handlers, and handwashing prior to food handling).
2_ No preventive vaccine or drug is available.
Vaccine of Campylobacter jejuni
No preventive vaccine or drug is available.
