Close up
A shot that contains the whole of a person’s head but nothing else
Extreme close-up
A shot that contains a section of a person’s head (just the eyes/mouth etc.)
Long shots
A full-length shot of a person
Medium close-ups
a shot from the waist up (sometimes known as the ‘newsreader’ shot)
Estabilishing shots
A wide shot of a landscape or scene (introducing the setting)
High-angle (a.k.a bird eyes view)
A shot taken from above
Low-angle (a.k.a worm eyes view)
A shot taken from below
Tracking shot
When the camera follows the characteror action
the whole camera moves often on a mini-rail track
Zoom
When the camera moves from a long shot towards the subject or the reverse (which is known as zooming out)
Panning shot
When the camera turns from one side of the shot to the other, like a head turning from right to left.
(only part of the camera moves)
Tilt/canted shot
LIke a panning shot, but the camera moves up and down rather than side to side
Push/pull shot
When a zoom in is combined with a track out.
Editing
the process of selecting and ordering shots in order to convey meanings to the audience
Transitions
The different ways that one shot can tranistion to the next shot, for example fade, dissolve, jump cut etc.
