What does a camera represent?
The audience’s eyes
What does a closeup indicate?
emotion. (Amy Coplan says emotional contagion is caused by lingering closeups)
Extreme closeups?
Create a further sense of emotion and discomfort
What is a midshot?
the middle of a person, done for action
What is the purpose of a wide shot?
it establishes the setting or can signify isolation/expanse
What do low/high angle shots do?
Low shots make you look up at the characters making them look strong. High angle shots look down on them making them seem vulnerable
What are eye level shots done for?
Equality
Why would you use a point of view shot?
To make the audience experience what the character is feeling
What do tracking shots do?
inject kinesthetic engery, allowing the audience to feel like they’re on the journey with the character
What are canted angles/Dutch tilts and what are they used for?
They are wonky angle to unnerve the audience and/or signify a warped mindset
