Calculating the Sign Test Flashcards
When do you use a Sign Test?
-Nominal data
-Checking for differences
-Repeated Measures
(OR)
-Matched Pairs
How to calculate the Sign Test?
1) State the alternative + null hypotheses
2) Give each pair of data a (+) or (-)
3) Work out the value of S
4) Look up the critical value of S
5) Compare the values + check the rule
What must you know in order to complete a Sign Test?
1) Calculated Value of S
(S = number of times the least frequent sign occurs)
2) Critical Value of S
3) N (total number of scores- not 0)
4) Is hypothesis one-tailed (directional) or two-tailed (non-directional)?
How do you report a conclusion?
If the calculated value is equal or less than the critical value, the result is significant.
