Calculating the Equilibrium Constant K eq Flashcards
What is the only factor that can change the Keq value?
Temperature
In an exothermic reaction, and in an increase of temp, will the Keq decreases or increase?
Decrease in Keq
In an exothermic reaction, and in an decrease of temp, will the Keq decreases or increase?
Increase in Keq
In an endothermic reaction, and in an increase of temp, will the Keq decreases or increase?
Increase in Keq
In an exothermic reaction, and in an decrease of temp, will the Keq decreases or increase?
Decrease in Keq
Large Keq value
The equilibrium position lies significantly to the side of the products (i.e. to the right)
Medium Keq value (0.1 and 10)
These are comparable amounts of both reactants and products, so the equilibrium exists as an intermediate mixture
Small Keq value
The equilibrium position lies significantly to the side of the reactants (left)
What is the equilibrium constant, Keq?
Describes the quantiative relationships/ ratios between the conc. of reactants and products at equilibrium
What is the reaction quotient, Q?
Obtained when the conc. of reactants and products for a reaction are not yet at equilibrium
Q < K
Lies to the right - increase conc. of products
Q = K
System is at equilibrium
Q > K
System lies to the left - increase conc. of reactants
When pressure, volume or concentrations are changed,…..
they will still satisfy the old Keq value
How to calculate the molar solubility of a substance
- Chemical equation
- Ksp = ______ - [ ] [ ]
- Let x = ___, stochiometry
- Solubility - conc. x Molar mass = g/L
