How does calcitrol (vit D) work?

A

Increases blood calcium levels by:

  • increasing GI absorption of calcium
  • increasing renal tubular re-absorption of calcium
  • stimulate calcium release from bone
  • causes PTH to decrease —> bone reabsorption decreases.
