How does alendronate work?

A

It inhibits bone reabsorbtion by osteoclasts - this strengthens it by increasing bone density thereby decreasing fractures.

A

Osteoblasts make bone.

Osteoclasts reabsorb bone

GI upset:

  • heart burn
  • abdo pain
  • diarrh / const
