What is calcium gluconate indicated for?
severe hyperkalaemia
What side effects occur with oral calcium?
dyspepsia and constipation
What side effects can occur with calcium gluconate?
Hypotension if administered too fast
Local tissue damage if accidently given SC
What side effects can vitamin D cause?
Abdominal pain; headache; hypercalcaemia; hypercalciuria; nausea; skin reactions
What are the warnings for calcium and vitamin D
Avoid in hypercalcaemia
What drugs can interact with oral calcium?
Can reduce absorption of iron, bisphosphonates, tetracyclines, levothyroxine
What interact drugs can interact with vitamin D drugs?
Thiazide diuretics- hypercalcaemia risk
Enzyme inducers
