Q

Cable Types

What is Singlemode Fiber Optics used for?

A

Long distance transmissions.

Singlemode utilises one fibre strand for one ray of light to transfer data.

What is Multimode transmission used for?

A

Short distance transmissions.

In multimode light rays tracel across multiple glass fibre strands.

Q

Ethernet Catagories

What CATagory is the most common today?

Why?

A

CAT5e

It is cheap, readily available and handles 1Gb transfer speeds/data rate. Most moderm devices come with 1Gb NICs as standard.

Q

Ethernet Catagories

List the details of CAT6 and CAT6a

A

CAT6:
10Gb/s over 55m

CAT6a:
Has better immunisation and crosstalk prevention than base 6

Both:
Requires all equiptment down the line to be CAT6 certified.
Weariness that cables are properly terminated.
Testing can be arranged to ensure installs are done as per the CAT6 guidelines.

17
Q

Antennas

Explain Omni vs Directional antennas.

A

Omni antennas send data over a shorter distances but in every direction. They tend to look like a ‘stick’

Directional antennas tend to have a ‘shield’ behind them that help focus incoming and outgoing transmissions, resulting in further but directed transmissions.

18
Q

Antennas

Explain Point to Point communication

A

This is where there is only two devices sending/receiving to each other.

19
Q

Antennas

Explain Multipoint Communication.

A

This is where the communcation link is between multiple senders and receivers.

20
Q

Wireless Types:

What is Bluetooth? Explain.

A

A short range radio wireless technology. This is low power and connects devices, generally for data transfer. Great for low battery devices.

It has a range of <100m.

Class one <100m
Class two <10m (Most Common Class)
Class three <1m

21
Q

Crosstalk

Alien Cross Talk vs Crosstalk

A

ATX is when one cable interferes with another seperate cable

Crosstalk is when one circuit interferes with another circuit in the same system

22
Q

Crosstalk

Near End Cross Talk is?

A

The crosstalk occuring nearest to the transmitter.

NEXT

23
Q

Crosstalk

Far End Cross Talk is?

A

When cross talk occurs near to the reciever.
