Q

What are the responsibilities of the Work Team?

A

a. Work to the PiC in accordance with the safety rules and procedures and any agreed Standing Instruction or Permit to Work.
b. Take reasonable care in the promotion of the health and safety of themselves and of any other person who may be affected by their actions or omissions
c. Only use equipment for which they have been trained and in the manner in which they have been trained
d. Report to the PiC any defects found in the tools, plant and equipment to be, or being, used in the works
e. Where more than one member of a Work Team enters a confined space, one person is to be nominated by the PiC to lead the entry team and be in direct control of their activities in the confined space. This function is separate from the PiC role.

16
Q

When conducting gas testing of an enclosed space, where should test be conducted with the gas tester?

A
Outside Top
Inside Top
Middle
Bottom
any Ducts
17
Q

Define the Bonding and Grounding of external cables?

A

Bonding;

Bonding is the process whereby electrical conductors are connected together to equalise the potential difference across components

Grounding;

Grounding is the process whereby conductive equipment is connected to a ground electrode to dissipate any potential difference to earth.

18
Q

What four elements often cause breaches to the building’s Fire Resistant Elements?

A
  • Risers
  • Containment
  • Cables
  • Pipes
19
Q

State four products that can be used as fire stopping materials?

A
Fire Stop Collars;
Fire Stop Bricks;
Fire Stop Plugs;
Fire Stop Pillows;
Tapes and Putties
20
Q

State four factors that should be considered when installing optical fibre cabling?

A
  • Fibre stress
  • Bend radius
  • Mechanical strength
  • Cable ties
  • Spare cable
  • Cable labelling
  • Cable end protection
  • Pits and Ducts
21
Q

How is the minimum bend radii calculated of an optical fibre cable?

A

The minimum bend radii is 4x the diameter of the outer jacket.

22
Q

When working in cable pits, at which locations should a cable be labelled?

A

As they enter and leave each and every bore.

23
Q

What media should be installed within a cable pit?

A

Multimode, Singlemode and Coaxial Cable.

24
Q

Why are pits and ducts network the preferred method when installing external cabling?

A

For the preservation of data confidentiality, availability and integrity.

25
Q

On which occasions and by who’s agreement can an aerial system such as catenaries be used when installing external cabling?

A

An aerial system for external cable infrastructure is therefore only to be considered under the most exceptional circumstances, and then, only with the agreement of the relevant SCIDA or CIDA.

26
Q

What is the maximum interval of a cable pit?

A

100 metre intervals,

27
Q

What distance should a pit be located to a Building Entry Point?

A

Normally within 5 metres

28
Q

Each duct should provide how much spare capacity to afford future installations?

A

Each entry duct shall provide 50% spare capacity, or approximately 12 cables and shall be sealed at both the Building Entry Facility (BEF) and the cable chamber pit.

29
Q

Ducting within pits adjacent to building entry points and within the building should be what on completion of the installation task?

A

???Sealed???

this is a guess?

30
Q

State five different types of installation equipment?

A
  • Duct ropes
  • Duct rod
  • Fused swivel
  • Fibre socks
  • Turning wheels
  • Cable guide
  • Fleeting technique
  • Capstan winch
  • Rollers and Jacks
  • Lubricant
  • Communication.
31
Q

Explain the process and reasons for “Fleeting” cable?

A

If there are no suitable turning wheels available on a bend then enough cable should be pulled through and fleeted to complete the route. Make sure that the figure of eights are large enough and spread the cross-over points to avoid stress on the cable.

32
Q

Explain the term “Rainbow Cable”?

A

SDIP 29 states the RED and BLACK information should not be transmitted within the same multicore fibre optic cable. However, operational theatres, as part of the backbone ICT infrastructure, have introduced a 144 core fibre optic cable (commonly referred to as Rainbow cable) to carry all security classifications of data.
