C8 Chemical Analysis Flashcards
What’s the process of water water treatment?
During screening the large twigs and grit are removed form the sewage.
During sedimentation, the waste settles in a settlement tank and the heavier solids sink the the bottom while the less dense floats to the top.
Aerobic digestion:Air is pumped through to encourage aerobic bacteria to break down organic matter and microbes.Water is then released back into the environment
Anaerobic digestion:sludge is transferred to larger tank where the bacteria breaks the organic matter down, releasing methane. This can then be used for fertilizers or natural gas
Stages of fresh water treatment
Filtration through large mesh to remove large solids and filter beds to remove smaller solids
Sterilization using ozone chlorine or UV light to kill microbes
What is flame emission spectroscopy?
Sample is placed in flame
Light passes through a spectroscope
Each ion produced unique spectrum
Intensity of the line can indicate the concentration on ion solution
