C8 Flashcards
How to measure rate of reaction
Amount of reactant used / time
Or
Amount of product formed / time
Units of rate of reaction
G/s or cm3/s or in mol/s
How to find rate of reaction graphically
Draw a tangent and use the tangent to calculate the grandient which is the rate of reaction at a specific time
Factors that affect the rates of chemical reactions
Concentration
Pressure
Surface area
Temperature
Catalysts
What is the collision theory
The theory that chemical reactions can only occur when reacting particles collide with eachother and with sufficient energy
What is activation energy
The minium amount of energy that particles must have to react
What factors increase the frequency of collosions
Increasing the concentration of reactants in solution, the pressure of reacting gases and the surface area of solid reactants
What does increasing the frequency of collisions mean
The increase in the rate of reaction
What is a catalyst
Substances that speed up the rate of chemical reactions without being changed or used up during the reaction
