C6 - Forces Vehiclees and safety Flashcards
what 2 components make up stopping distance
thinking distance and breaking distance (breaking distance proportional to square of the speed of car)
what affects thinking distance
alchohol
drugs
age
what affects breaking distance
mass of car conditions on the road worn tyres or breaks tread on tyres speed
what is apasenger cell
rigid box more likely to survive an impact
what is a crumple zone
at front of car it will squash in a crash which absorbs a lot of the energy
how do seat belts reduce force impact
stretchy so time of crash increses
his can we use F=ma to explain how car safety features protect passengers
by increasing the length of the crash we are reducing the acceleration so the overall impact force will be reduced
How can GPS track location
3 safelights send out regular beams of informations. recover receives signals and can work out how long it tok to receive so how far it was from it, signal has precise ordinates and if you draw circle of correct distance form these 3 starlight where they overlap is where you are.
this is known as trilateration
