C3 - explaining motion Flashcards
how can you use force and mass to work ut acceleration
force/mass
what is inertia
inertia is the ability to resist any change in its motion
what is the definition of a newton
one newton is the force that will give a 1 kg object a acceleration of 1 ms-2 in the direction of that force
what is the centre of gravity
the point on an object where all the weight appears to act on
what is weight
mass x gravity
what is the acceleration of free fall
9.81 ms-1 and is the same for any weihgt is air resistance is neglable
hen using an electronic timer how cn you work out the height
h = 0.5gt2
what are the issue with a electronic timer
magnet may retain some eltromagnetic field slowing down ball so t is longer than necery so we will work out g as too small
what is a systematic error
all results a are syetmaticly distorted so that they are too great or too small as a result of the design flaw
