C3 - Quantitative Chemistry Flashcards
What are MOLES used for?
Moles are used to compare a quantity of a substance.
What is RFM (Relative Formula Mass) used for?
Used for compounds.
DUE TO CONSERVATION OF MASS
The total mass of reactants must equal the total mass of products ( even if a gaseous product leaves )
What is AVOGADRO’S CONSTANT?
1 mole = 6.02 x 10^23 atoms/molecules
What is the EQUATION for moles?
Moles = mass (g) / Ar/Mr ( Mr for compounds )
What is STOICHIOMETRY?
Ratio of moles of one substance to another in a reaction
What happens when a SUBSTANCE is DISSOLVED in WATER?
A substance will DISSOCATE into its ions ( e.g, H+ , Cl- ), AS WELL AS THE WATER into H+ and OH-
What are the units for CONCENTRATION?
g/dm^3 OR mol/dm^3
EQUATION for CONCENTRATION
moles / volume (dm^3)
