C22 - Gluconeogenesis Flashcards
1
Q
What AA cannot undergo gluconeogenesis? Why?
A
Leucine + Lysine. Only give AcCoA
2
Q
Can FA undergo gluconeogenesis? Why?
A
No. Only gives AcCoA
3
Q
What are gluconeogenesis substrates?
A
most AA, exp Leu + Lys
glycerol
TCA cycle intermediates
4
Q
When can AcCoA be used for gluconeogenesis?
A
In plant (not animal) when glyoxylate cycle is operating
5
Q
What organs consume most glucose? Can they do gluconeogenesis?
A
Brain and Muscle. No (primarily in liver + kidney)
6
Q
Why gluconeogenesis is not glycolysis in reserve?
A
Glycolysis = exergonic (large negative delta G). If reserved, gluconeogenesis would be endergonic (not occur spontaneously)
Regulate in a reciprocal fashion –> having 4 unique reactions
