How did women encourage young men who had not joined the war to do so?

What did the government do to try to protect people who stayed at home?
The government issued posters showing people how to differentiate between British and German aircraft and warning them to take shelter if they spotted an enemy aircraft
Why did the government introduce rationing?
To make sure that food was equally shared out since Britain was short of food during the war. This was due to German submarines and battleships sinking the boats that brought it by sea
Why did goods’ prices go up?
During the war, some goods were in short supply. The government also had to pay back the loans after borrowing millions from the USA to pay for the war
What happened to the women’s jobs?
Since many men were away fighting, women were needed to do their jobs. There were female bus drivers and many found work in weapons factories and the ambulance service. For the first time ever, women were recruited into the police force
Zeppelin
A large inflatable German airship used for reconnaissance and bombing (British towns)
What was DORA?
A new law introduced by the government called the Defence of the Realm Act
What was the purpose of DORA?
It gave the government the power to do whatever they felt was necessary to win the war. They could take over mines, railways and shipyards, and control newspapers and radio. They even introduced strict pub opening hours to limit drunken behaviour
