Q

Explain eutrophication.

A

1) The fertilisers get washed from the fields into ponds, lakes and rivers.
2) They provide nutrients to the algae on top.
3) The algae grows quickly and blocks off the sunlight from oxygen producing plants in the water.
4) These plants die
5) Aerobic bacteria then decomposes the dead and decaying plants and take in all the oxygen.
6) Most of the living organisms then die
